Arkhangelsk

Arkhangelsk  is a city and the administrative center of Arkhangelsk Oblast. It lies on both banks of the Northern Dvina River near its exit into the White Sea in the far north of European Russia. The population of the city is 348 400 (50 place in Russia). It has the rank of City of Military Glory.

Arkhangelsk experiences a subarctic climate. The average temperature of January is -13,5 °C, of July is +15,8 °C. The annual average precipitation is 577 mm.

Arkhangelsk is a big scientific and industrial center in the south-west of Russia, the region which is rich in natural recourses: wood, fish, there are also deposits of diamonds, bauxite and oilfields.
