State Marine Technical University of St.PetersburgState Marine Technical University of St.Petersburg is the only Russian institution of higher education which trains world-class marine engineers-specialists in designing, construction and technical exploitation of seagoing ships, fighting ships and submarines, technical means of providing reconnoitering and oil extraction on the seabed. The history of the university began in 1902 when Shipbuilding Department was opened in St.Petersburg Polytechnic Institute. Since its opening it became very prestigious. In 1917 the department became the faculty and in 1930 on its basis there was opened an independent institution of higher education - Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute which in 1990 was given the status of the technical university and was renamed into Leningrad State Marine Technical University and in 1992 it became State Marine Technical University of St.Petersburg SMTU is proud of the actions of its graduates. During the last century they revived domestic navy and during the post-war period they created the most powerful surface and submarine fleet of the Soviet Union. Faculties:
