Kursk

Kursk is the administrative center of Kursk oblast. It makes up a municipal formation "The city of Kursk", which has the status of a municipal district.

Kursk was given an honorary title "City of military glory". The population is more than 400 000.

The climate of the city is moderately continental. It is situated in a forest-steppe zone. Winter is cold enough, though sometimes it is thawing. Severe frosts are rare here. Summer is changeable: strong heat and clear weather change into cool weather. Sometimes it can be stormy.

There are several institutions of higher education.

The main sectors of industry are chemical production of rubber and plastic articles, food production, machine building, nonmetallic mineral products.
