Petropavlovsk-KamchatskyPetropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is a city and port in Far East of Russia; it is the administrative center of Kamchatsky krai. The population is 194 431. The annual average temperature is +1,5 °C. The warmest month is August with the average temperature +12,5°C. The coldest month is January with the average temperature -8,4 °C. Maximum temperature was +29,4°C in July 1907; minimum one was -31,7°C in February 1917. The eastern shore of Kamchatka is one of the most seismoactive places in Russia. In XX century in the area of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky there were four 7-point earthquakes and two 8-point ones. The main sector of city's economy is harvesting and processing of fish. One of the main roles in the economy also plays tourism. In the last years mining industry has been developing intensively. Two thermal power plants work in the town. There are 13 institutions of higher education in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. |
