Ulan-Ude



Ulan-Ude is a city in East Siberia; it is the capital city of the Republic of Buryatia.

The population is 377 100. The total area of the city is 347,6 square km.

The city was founded in 1666 as a Cossack winter hut on the right bank of the River Selenga at its confluence with the Uda River.

The town is situated in a moderately continental zone. The climate is extremely continental. The annual average temperature is +0,4°C. The hottest month is July (+19,2°C), the coldest one is January (-23,8°C).
The highest temperature ever recorded was +40°C on 22 June 2010.

The lowest temperature ever recorded was -54,4°C on 6 January 1931.

Maximum air humidity is 74-77% is in November-January, minimum one (49%) is in May.
The annual average precipitation is 264mm.

The annual average temperature is -0,4°C.
The annual average wind speed is 2,1 meters per second.
The annual average air humidity is 66%.

At the present time there are 6 private, 11 branches and 1 state institutions of higher education in town. Specialized secondary education is represented by 16 educational institutions.

There are also 84 comprehensive schools and 80 pre-school educational institutions in Ulan-Ude.
